International Symposium on DIStributed Computing (DISC) 2021

Junior-Senior Meetings

What is This?

Research is a life-long journey and those who have travelled the path longer are best suited to guide those just starting out or early in their journey. The goal of these Junior-Senior meetings is to provide a platform for junior researchers (students and postdocs) to interact with seniors in the field and profit from their experience, whether it be in how to approach research, dealing with the job market, or perhaps more personal concerns like work-life balance.

How does it Work?

  1. We will soon release a registration form asking you (junior researchers) for some basic info and asking you when you are free to attend a meeting, why you want to meet, and if there is someone (senior researcher) in particular you want to meet.
  2. Fill out the survey by October 1st, 2021 at 23:59, AoE.
  3. We will email you by October 3rd, 2021 to let you know when your session(s) will take place.
  4. Join the Zoom session 10 minutes before your session begins.
  5. Meet people and have fun! Note that there may be multiple junior researchers present to meet the same senior researcher.

Physical meetings may be arranged on-the-fly during the conference. And to avoid spamming online participants, the announcements will be made either in-person or on a relevant topic on Zulip. Don’t hesitate to reach out if interested.
