DISC was formerly known as WDAG. The name change, which took effect in 1998, reflects the expansion from a workshop to a symposium and from distributed algorithms to all aspects of distributed computing. The first DISC was held in Andros, Greece in September 1998.
The broad scope of the symposium provides an opportunity to bring together specialists in theory, design, analysis, implementation, or application of distributed systems and networks. Principal topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
Angel Alvarez | Technical University of Madrid |
Anindya Basu | Bell Laboratories |
Shlomi Dolev | Ben-Gurion University |
Cynthia Dwork | IBM Almaden Research Center |
Rachid Guerraoui | Ecole Polytechnique, Lausaunne |
Vassos Hadzilacos | University of Toronto |
Maurice Herlihy | Brown University |

Bratislava (population 450 000) is the capital of Slovak Republic, located close to the Austrian, Hungarian and Czech borders on both banks of the river Danube. Bratislava is a very old town with more than 2000 years history. Full town privileges were granted to Bratislava in 1291. The historic centre is dominated by the Bratislava Castle. Today Bratislava is a political, economic and cultural centre of Slovakia. Bratislava is the seat of Comenius University, Slovak Technical University and Economy University. More information about the history and sightseeing in Bratislava can be found on the DISC '99 homepage http:/www.disc99.sk/.
The conference will be held in Druzba - congress centre of the Comenius University (Botanicka 25, 842 15 Bratislava, Slovakia), which is located about 3km west of the town centre. By regular tram connections it is possible to reach the town centre in about 10 minutes. As the capacity of the University subsidized guest rooms is limited, the booking will be performed on the first-come-first-served basis.
The registration fee covers conference fee, accommodation, breakfasts, lunches, coffee breaks, social events, a copy of the proceedings, and a copy of the technical report containing brief announcements papers.
